Latest transport from China ensures fast delivery times in Europe, Africa and Americas

After two months at sea, the heavily laden semi-submersible Zhen Hua 28 recently arrived in Rotterdam with a cargo of 16 new Damen pontoons and workboats, as well as numerous modular barges. The discharging operation has been successfully completed, and Damen can uphold its reputation for fast delivery of high quality built-for-stock vessels.

Damen has already delivered Stan Pontoons® to many European countries including Norway, the UK and the Netherlands. Pontoons held in stock have also been sold to Africa, North and South America and Russia.

The new stock also includes several workboats – Stan Tugs, Stan Launches, and two large Shoalbusters – and the fully ballastable Stan Pontoon® 9127: also known as the ‘North Sea Barge’. Its large deck with high loading capacity and pre-designed plug and play options make it perfectly suited for ocean going transport and offshore projects. A nice example of the pontoon’s diverse applications is the recent deployment of three Stan Pontoons® 9127 as a base for the inauguration party of Allseas’ Pioneering Spirit, while in a previous job the pontoons were used in an offshore wind installation project.

Discharged in top condition

In Rotterdam earlier this month, the transport vessel made for an impressive sight, particularly as it was assisted on the Calandkanaal by KOTUG’s new Damen-built hybrid Rotortug. However, as Damen’s Director Pontoons & Barges Frank Koppelaar points out, successfully discharging the cargo was an impressive operation in itself.

“In good cooperation with a number of expert companies in the Netherlands, we ensured all the brand new pontoons, barges and tugs were discharged in top condition after the passage from China. Lashing materials were removed and welding spots were touched up.”

To accomplish this, Damen worked together with project cargo and heavy lift terminal RHB, the Port of Rotterdam Authority, Bonn & Mees Floating Cranes as well as Perfect Maintenance, International Lashing Service, and Den Breejen.

Fulfilling customer demand

Damen continues to strategically build various pontoons and barges at different yards around the world. These include the Damen Yichang Shipyard, which recently entered a new era of shipbuilding, rolling out an increased portfolio of vessels to a wider global market.

Damen also has Bunker and Crane Barges under construction. A recent development is the improved Transshipment Crane Barge 6324. This barge is Damen’s solution for transshipment of bulk, container and project cargo worldwide.
